I had the opportunity to hone my illustration skills through my involvement with a local art gallery museum. I was tasked with creating eye-catching illustrations for their social event flyers and marketing campaigns, and it’s fulfilling to know that some of my work is still in use on their social media platforms today. Simultaneously, during this period, I was a student double majoring in graphic design and illustration at East Carolina University. This academic journey provided me with valuable insights into the world of art and design. However, what truly struck me was the importance of presenting one’s craft professionally and understanding the intricacies of visual communication. I discovered that creativity is not just about skill acquisition but also about trusting the creative process and allowing ideas to flow organically.
What are your favorite things to do?
Outside of my professional pursuits, I have a deep passion for storytelling and visual interpretation. One of my favorite pastimes is delving into novels and children’s books, and after reading them, I take pleasure in reimagining and illustrating them in my own unique style. This allows me to bring my own vision to life, adding a personal touch to cherished narratives. Moreover, I have found solace in tending to my foam collection, which serves as a stress-relief activity after engaging my creative faculties all day. Additionally, I indulge in creative hobbies such as scrapbooking and journaling to reflect on my daily experiences and emotions. Painting is another artistic outlet that I relish, as it provides a canvas for self-expression and experimentation. In terms of physical well-being, I incorporate weighted hula hoop exercises and acupressure into my routine to maintain a healthy balance while spending long hours working.
What do you want to achieve with this internship?
Looking ahead, my aspirations revolve around expanding my collaborative experiences within design teams and related roles. I aim to create a professional portfolio that can serve as a testament to my growth and expertise in illustration. Furthermore, I am keen to delve into the world of coding and website development, with a particular focus on WordPress, to broaden my skill set and better understand the digital landscape.
What is one interesting fact about you?
On a more personal note, as a Buddhist, I have a deep appreciation for the cultural and spiritual aspects of my faith. When I have the opportunity to explore new places, I often find myself drawn to Vietnamese-Buddhist temples. Each temple offers a unique and mesmerizing experience, with distinct styles of depicting the life of Buddha that never cease to captivate me.
What is your favorite quote?
My journey is guided by the principle that “Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have,” emphasizing the importance of gratitude and contentment in my life.
